The Crumbling of the Entertainment Industry

The Crumbling of the Entertainment Industry

The entertainment industry is currently facing a crisis. After being forced to stop production and close down due to the arrival of the corona virus in the United States, the entertainment industry has been hard hit, leading to effects on both television and in person entertianment- such as theater and live music shows. The slowing down of two of the largest branches of the entertainment industry has led to an extreme loss of profit within the industry which has many worried about the future of entertainment and if the industry will ever recover from the challenges it has been subjected too through the pandemic.

Within the entertainment industry one of the largest branches of the industry, television, has been the hardest hit, leading to the slowing down of show productions and the cancellation of numerous shows. Two main obstacles are leading to the downfall of the television industry: first the inability to produce episodes due to the production industry being forced to slow down and close and second the need to implement changes into the television industry in a quick manner in order to adjust to CDC guidelines for covid-19.

In addition to the television branch of entertainment being especially hard hit, the parts of the industry that required in person participation, such as theater and live music concerts, have also received a massive blow due to the pandemic. Due to the cancellation of all in person shows, the theater industry has been massively affected, forcing hundreds of theaters around the country to close, leading to many people losing their jobs and being subjected to poverty. Similarly, live music concerts have been affected by being forced to close, causing several musicians to lose their source of income in addition to all the backstage hands that assist at live music concerts.

Through the hit of the pandemic in the United States, everyone has had to make adjustments however for industries, the hit of the virus hasn’t made for an easy transition. In the entertainment industry, new adjustments needed in order to make a safe, productive environment have proved to be a challenge and have led to the downfall of both the television and live entertainment industries. In order for these industries to be able to survive past this pandemic, major adjustments are going to be needed including the start back up of the production industry and long term changes in adjustment to CDC guidelines. One thing is clear though, the recovery of the industry is essential in order to keep people entertained and the only way this is going to be accomplished is through the implementation of these long-term changes.
