While the duopolies Apple and Samsung dominate the phone market, other phone companies offer alternatives that are decent. One of the most well-received Android phone brands is the Oneplus which has been around since 2013. So it is not new to the market.
The new Oneplus 9 and Oneplus 9 Pro launched on March 23 in the United States, with other countries later following. The phones are the introduction of the partnership between Oneplus and Hasselblad, a well-known, high-end camera brand.
The design is similar to the Oneplus 8 and 8 Pro, besides the camera block being on the upper left rather than in the middle of the back, similar to the Oneplus 8T.
The cameras are where Oneplus struggled with their past flagships but were overhauled in the 9 and 9 Pro thanks to the Hasselblad partnership, offering improved color calibration and image quality.
And just like the Oneplus 8 and 8 Pro before, the new 9 and 9 Pro have a 120Hz refresh rate, which is smoother than seen in some current flagships and older phones, and a 6.55 AMOLED display.
Both the 9 and 9 Pro have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 with 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The flaws include a lack of flagship material polish, according to Techrader’s Oneplus 9 review. It also lacks microSD support. Another issue is that the 9 does not have a telephoto camera, and both phones have average battery life.
Even with having some of these flaws, the Oneplus 9 series delivers with camera, performance, and overall function at the same price as a current iPhone for those who prefer an Android experience.
The Oneplus 9 currently sells at $730 while the Oneplus 9 Pro currently sells at $970 at your mobile carrier or tech store of choice.
