Can Ohio State Win The Rose Bowl Again?

Fintan Cole, Sports

I think Ohio State will win the Rose Bowl this year. I may be a little biased here since my family is deeply connected to Ohio State. My parents went to Ohio State, my paternal cousins went to Ohio State, and my paternal uncle went to Ohio State. My maternal cousin Joe is the exception. He did not go to college, as he was drafted early to the United States Marines.

My family has a reason to be fans because Ohio State first won the Rose Bowl in 1950. They last won it in 2019. They have eight Rose Bowl wins in school history. Ohio State is 1st in the Big Ten East behind everybody else.

Justin Fields, a former Ohio State quarterback, got drafted by the Chicago Bears, and he has led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a perfect regular-season record in 2019. They made it to the tournament undefeated but finally lost to Clemson on a close call. The team now has a new quarterback, C.J. Stroud, and backup quarterbacks such as Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers. Could Ohio State beat Michigan again and head to the Rose Bowl with only the loss against Oregon?

Ohio State’s head coach Ryan Day says his team is improving ever since they lost against the Ducks. When Ohio State is doing very well, the team puts lots of stickers on their helmets. So get your stickers ready, because Ohio State is soon to be Rose Bowl champions if they continue to crunch the other teams. Ohio State recently beat Indiana 54-7. Michigan is Ohio State’s rival, and if Ohio State wants to make it to the Rose Bowl, they need to keep winning and maybe even beat Michigan for the 9th time in the past 11 years.

Injuries are another aspect of winning and losing. Also, it’s good that most injuries with Ohio State are occurring with the least active players. If the most valuable players, or at least the most active, keep themselves fit and healthy, then Ohio State will beat their rival Michigan and claim the Rose Bowl for the university.

Now for a little Rose Bowl history: the first-ever Rose Bowl game was in 1902 between the Michigan Wolverines and the Stanford Cardinal. The Wolverines won, 49-0. Then the Rose Bowl wasn’t awarded until 1916 when the Washington State Cougars beat the Brown Bears 14-0. Then Oregon beat Penn 14-0, and the first time that the Rose Bowl didn’t end in a shutout was 1918 when the Mare Island Marines beat the Camp Lewis Army 19-7. Ohio State won their first Rose Bowl in 1950, and again in 1955, 1958, 1969, 1974, 1997, 2010, and 2019!

Ohio State made it to the Rose Bowl in 1921, 1950, 1955, 1958, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1985, 1997, 2010, and 2019. From this, I think that Ohio State is fit to make it to the Rose Bowl in January. Last little thing, boy, would my family and I be so happy if the Ohio State Buckeyes make it. They’ll have the second-most Rose Bowls in history! Ohio State has to level up for an appearance! If they do, they will, beyond a reasonable doubt, make it to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
