Jackboys Album Review

Dillon Sheehan, Staff Writer

The Houston rapper, Travis Scott, and his small team at Cactus Jack Records, including Sheck Wes, Don Toliver and Luxury Tax 50, produced their first album called JACKBOYS.

This album consists of seven songs, featuring other very popular artists such as Young Thug, Rosalia, Lil Baby, Pop Smoke, Quavo and Offset from the Migos.

The cover art for the album consists of the members of JACKBOYS all in green masks and in flashy cars that were auctioned off and sold to the highest bidder before the album was released.

A photo of three cars was released so a rumor that there will be three album drops, each with seven songs.

Seven times three equals 21, and 21 is what it takes to win Blackjack, the name of the first merchandise drops.

The first song on the album is a Lil Baby and Rosalia remix on Travis Scotts hit song, “Highest In The Room.”

While the remix is good, it would have been better without Rosalia because the whole song is a laid back flow and when the verses switch to Rosalia and she starts singing in Spanish and it completely changes the song in the wrong way.

The second song on the album is called “JACKBOYS,” and is a 47 second instrumental.

The third song on this album is called “GANG GANG.” This song includes Sheck Wes, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and Luxury Tax.

Sheck Wes doesn’t perform as well he should have. He has a raspy, whispery voice and it doesn’t flow as well as the others do with this beat. Don Toliver does the chorus of this song and he does it really well because he has an amazing voice and overall he does outstanding on this whole album.

The real star on this song is Luxury Tax. He has an amazing verse, and potentially the best on the album.

The next song on this album is “HAD ENOUGH” by Don Toliver, Quavo, and Offset. This song is extremely smooth and Toliver kills it again, making it really hard to not nod your head while listening. Members of the rap group Migos Quavo, and Offset are featured on this song, and they flow very well with the beat to make this song overall great.

The last song on JACKBOYS is called “GATTI” and is featuring an upcoming rapper named Pop Smoke. Personally, I don’t like Smoke’s verse on this song because his voice is one tone the whole time and repetitive lyrics don’t help. However, Travis Scott also is in this song and does extremely well by rapping as he did on his older more popular songs.

I give this album an 8.5/10 and the best performer I think is Don Toliver. He started getting popular because he was featured on Scott’s previous album, and then Toliver made a song “No Idea” which blew up through the app TikTok.
